How to make children like reading?

Reading is an activity that will bring more information. Activities that make your brain fresh. You can enhance your understanding of what you have already known by reading. There are a lot of things which can be read such as books, scientific journals, scientific papers at the website, and so on.



Parents would be happy if their children hobby is reading. Why? Because the majority of children who love reading are children who have good academic skills. The next question is how to educate them to love reading.

Steps to educate children love reading:

1.    Start from the womb.
You can read a book that you really enjoy with. From scientific research, it is concluded that a baby in the womb can hear sounds from outside, especially her mother's voice.

2.    Read aloud them  a book when their age is under five years.

You can read them a book that has beautiful picture and brightly colored to attract their attention. Read aloud when they want to hear your story. This activity is performed to introduce reading activity early.

3.    Create an environment that encourages a reading habit.

For example by establishing a library at home. With the existence of the library, you have created an atmosphere of reading activities. Put the library in a place where you and your family used to gather, so that children can easily pick up a book and read it.

4.    If they are ready to consent the lesson, teach them letters and then reading gradually.

5.    Once they are able to read, give them a book for a gift, the book that make them interest to read.

If they can do chores properly or when they get a high score in their school, give them the gift of a book. It will make them happy with the book, if they are happy with it then they will read it. Finally they will love reading.

6.    Get used to perform informal discussion about the content of the books, especially the book which they have read.
For example, by asking them about the contents of the book, what conclusions can they draw from the story in the book, and so on.

7.    Take them to the library and make some activities there.
For examples:

a. Register to be a member of that library.
b. Teach them new information, try search and investigate some books in that library which can support your ideas, then try to draw conclusion based on books you have read.

8.    Encourage them to a book store and perform some activities there.

For examples:

a. Educate them how to find a book through catalog system.

b. Give them some tips how to select appropriate book based on their necessity.

9.    Teach them how to perform active reading or proper reading strategy.
for example:  outlining an important thing, mark things that will be repeated later so that it will be easier to look for, creating marginal notes, and so on.

10.  Download useful e-book to be read on a PC or tablet.

11.  Motivate them to write something, because writing require a lot of information and the information is obtained by reading.

12.  Give an example to them. Parents should set an example so that their children follow it.
For example by arranging a particular time to read in a place that is seemingly by children.
